From 5 to 8 October 2023 Bari hosted “Agrilevante“, an international exhibition of machinery, systems, and technologies for agricultural production, this event is the most important exhibition dedicated to the primary sector that takes place in the Mediterranean basin.
During this event, on 6 October 2023, a workshop organized by Edagricole, a well-known Italian publishing house that publishes books and magazines covering a wide range of fields in the primary sector, took place.
The workshop was entitled “From conservation agriculture to regenerative agriculture: sustainability and objectives for the new European green deal“.
During the event, the results of studies on the benefits of conservation agriculture in areas of Southern Italy were presented, as the introduction and development of this cultivation technique in the Apulia region. Subsequently, a manufacturer of agricultural machinery for no-till cultivation and a technician experienced with conservation agriculture systems spoke about their decades of experience in this field.
Finally, Sara Berzuini (University of Bologna) presented the 4CE-MED project introducing camelina as a new crop for the Mediterranean area, in particular, its introduction as a cash-cover crop, i.e., a crop capable of providing the agroecosystem benefits of the cover crop but at the same time allows also seed production to increase farmers’ income. Furthermore, the main agronomic techniques for the cultivation of camelina were described: sowing, fertilization, weed management, pathogens, and harvesting.
The audience was mainly composed of farmers who asked many questions and were interested in camelina, furthermore, there were also many university students who listened to all the speeches with interest.
